It has taken me a few days to find the best FIRST chemical compound to describe. What it could be? I found! Almost everyone use this in everyday life. Someone drink it, someone eat it. CAFFEINE! Very helpful compound.(If you don’t know yet, you’ll be thankful later 😉 ) 

You can found it in coffee, tea, energy drinks, soft drinks, chocolate.


Chemical formula

The IUPAC [International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry] name of caffeine (C8H10N4O2)  is 1,3,7-trimethylpurine-2,6-dione. Caffeine is white powder dissolved in hot water and chloroform.

This same or different?

Different names of caffeine depends of origin – around 60 plant species containing caffeine e.g. in seeds of Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora – caffeine, in tea plants – theine, in yerba mate – mate or matheine, from guarana berries –  guaranine.

Drink or not to drink?

The most common use of caffeine is in drinks – coffee and energy drinks. Maximum concentration of caffeine in blood is after one hour after consumption. Because of that, we want to sleep after one hot cup of that drink (specially with milk). Energy drinks have better refreshing and stimulating properties then coffee because we can found
it in better assimilable form (additionally we can found there another stimulants).

Caffeine block the action of adenosines which works to naturally trigger tiredness.


Only one SMALL cup of coffee

Toxic dose of caffeine is 1000mg, the lethal dose of caffeine  is 10g which is comparable to 80 cups of coffee (1 cup espresso = 100mg) . In one can of energy drink (250ml) is around 80mg, so is comparable.  Too frequent or intensive stimulation of the organism with caffeine leads at the end to imbalance, and after “energetic boost” fatigue, apathy and weakness of the body occur. Caffeine, in coffee or/and energy drinks shouldn’t be abuse. Do not consume more than six cups of coffee or three cans of energy drinks. Children under 16 years of age should give up consumption of this drink.
